The Arbitrariness of Existence Part 3: Stain

Texture A01, 2008
(Inkjet print, 25 x 20 inches)

These digitally altered photographs continue the theme of 'arbitrariness'. A stain on the ground is replicated and made into a texture, annihilating the possibility of knowing which was the original and bringing the viewer's attention to the surface of the photograph. According to Prendergast, "this method discourages the viewer from attempting to obtain meaning from the real content of the photograph, and the way that things happen to be arranged irrespective of the photographer's motives."
